About the Training
This one-day training on local policy and ordinances for nature-based solutions will teach participants the importance of local policies in creating and maintaining effective nature-based infrastructure. It will also dive into strategies for developing policies that will best facilitate nature-based designs in development and redevelopment opportunities.
During this training, participants will:
Learn how to write and incorporate policies that encourage nature-based principles into city planning and engineering design
Learn the key ways the language of policies can facilitate or inhibit nature-based solutions and maintain, enhance, restore, or mimic ecosystem functions
Learn and discuss examples of comprehensive policies that facilitate and incentivize specific nature-based solution and design needs
Identify the strengths and weaknesses of anonymous policies from ordinances along the US coast
Learn how the existing policy landscape of coastal SC was utilized in nature-based design for local case studies
Please note that general content will remain the same across repeated training offerings. However, at each training location we will strive to pull in local experts who can share local and relevant case studies based on the training location.
